What is Transition Links about?
About a year ago a couple of people from Horwich began to show a set of films that explain peak oil, the climate change thing and a wider set of topics hoping to stimulate debate towards ‘a variety possible futures’ rather than listen to mainstream media and begin to ‘blame them’, do ’business as usual’ or preach a ‘doom and gloom’ kind of future.
To do this we show free monthly films about other inspiring villages or towns and how they see the future, the environment, the peak oil thing and how their families and children are dealing with climate change. We cover all sorts of topics that you don’t commonly see anywhere else. We show films that are interesting and maybe controversial or that we hope challenge conventional thought. You might be shocked by some of them but you won’t be bored!
If you like that sort of thing and you want to know how to get involved with other like minded people in Bolton please come along and make your own mind up.
Some of us also meet every month and discuss wider issues that the films highlight.
For instance some people are more interested in learning more or doing more about certain issues than others and so there is now an outlet for ideas generated by the film nights a sort of momentum building. Call it transition, call it environmental, call it anything you want but there is a strong feeling of trust building within the films groups and via the meetings and a realisation that we can do alot more than we think as a group than as individuals.
Hence the name ‘Transition Links’. We’re forming links with people who are all thinking about better ways of dealing with peak oil and climate change issues in the place we live in
We aim to continue showing films and providing a local platform to discuss these emerging ideas with the hope they inspire you and others to talk about the future you see for your friends, family and neibours in a new light.
